a global network of institutions involved in applied ethics (through research, teaching, lobbying, campaigning)
a platform of discussion and sharing of publications and events
a platform for common projects in applied ethics
Who we are
a network which started in August 2004 with over 30 ecumenically oriented institutions from five continents, linking especially South-North and South-South
A network open for other faith-based and non faith-based ethical institutions
What we want
Networking To share information and research on ethical issues and provide space to create synergies and broaden contextual and global perspectives.
Empowerment To strengthen institutions working on ethics, especially in developing and transition countries, mainly by electronic networking.
Teamwork To facilitate common projects of research, publications, events, statements or action, especially with a broader participation from developing and transition countries.
How we work
Value-oriented: the participants act on the basis of core values, caring for life in dignity for everybody and a humane and sustainable development. While sharing Globethics.net's Goals and Principles, participants to the network represent a very broad and pluralistic variety of ethical approaches.
Responsible and committed: The participating institutions and individuals are responsible for what they ask for, contribute and offer. They commit themselves to respond to other participants proposals and demands. In case of clear violation of the Globethics.net principles, a participating institution or individual can be excluded from participation by the steering committee.
Open and transparent: the Globethics.net is open to as many participants as possible. It is based on openness (including open source as software basis of the electronic platform) and on transparency.
What we do
Ongoing sharing among the member institutions on the electronic Globethics.net platform
Annual global one-week conference of the member institutions of Globethics.net
Common publications (e.g. Christoph Stückelberger/Jesse Mugambi, eds: Responsible Leadership, Geneva/Nairobi 2005)
What we are not
Not a funding network for projects
Not a marketplace for profit-making activities
