Globethics.net, a worldwide network of about 500 ethicists reflecting on global ethics from a local perspective, is organising its third international conference in Nairobi, Kenya from 25-29 January 2009.
The objective of the conference is to reflect on how to best share ethical values across religions and cultures. Care and compassion, which are prime values in many cultures and religions, will serve as support theme to the reflection.
To prepare the conference, participants representing various cultural, religious, and knowledge backgrounds will exchange ideas and thoughts through online working groups set up for the occasion. Their task is to deliver part of the collective document to be discussed at Nairobi, and published after the conference: the Methodological Framework for Interreligious Research Partnership on Applied Ethics.
Each of the working groups will address one of the 5 subtopics:
1.Defining Global Ethics
2.Care and Compassion: Ensuring a Successful Interreligious Dialogue on Ethics
3.Care and Compassion: Integrating Different Means and Methods of Sharing Values, in a Human-to-Human Approach
4.Care and Compassion: Balancing Power Relations, Inducing a Real Transformation
5.Care and Compassion: Sharing Values in the Kenyan & East African Context

Conditions of participation are the following:
- register as an individual participant to the Globethics.net network
- fill out the application form on our website
- be selected on the basis of your application
- have free, reliable and unlimited access to internet
- participate actively in an online working group (July-December, about 3-6 days of work in total)
- contribute to travel expenses
