COVID-19 top of agenda at Globethics.net online Board meeting

The COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts on the higher education sector and on the work of Globethics.net was high on the agenda at the first meeting of the year of the Globethics.net Board of Foundation on 24 and 25 April 2020. It was the first full meeting to take place by video call with Board members in Brazil, Canada, India, Indonesia, South Africa and Switzerland invited. Board member Asha Kanwar, in her opening reflection on the second day of the Board meeting spoke of the approach and initiatives being taken by her organisation, the Commonwealth of Learning, in response to the pandemic.
New Board member Rita Astfalck, General Manager of the U.W. Linsi Foundation and long-time supporter of Globethics.net, was elected during the meeting. A fond and grateful farewell was bid to outgoing Board member Walter Linsi who has served on the Board since 2016 as well as supporting Globethics.net since before it was even born. As Board President and Founder Christoph Stückelberger stated in his eulogy," You (Walter Linsi) really are a co-founder of Globethics.net! … As a co-founder, you are and remain a parent of Globethics.net".
Other items on the agenda during the spring Board meeting were consideration of the Globethics.net Annual Report 2019 and the 2019 audited financial statements and organisational and departmental progress reports in the framework of the Annual Work Programme 2020.
The next meeting of the Board is set to take place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 15 and 16 October 2020, travel restrictions permitting.
