"Localise, decolonise or globalise the curriculum" was the title of the seminar and the theme of a rich meeting organized by Prof. Abdeljalil Akkari at the University of Geneva (Uni Mail) on 7 June 2023.

The thirty teachers and teacher trainers gathered, along with the authors and publishers of the book Repenser l’éducation et la pédagogie dans une perspective africaine (Rethinking Education and Pedagogy from an African Perspective) - Moussa Sagayar and Saibou Adamou, Stefania Gandolfi (Globethics, 2022) - first listened to the Director of the University Institute for Teacher Training at the University of Geneva, Prof. Olivier Maulini.

In the term 'globalise', one can hear the etymology of the word 'education', which, from the Latin 'e-ducere', means to take the individual out of their community, to extract them from the comfort of their family's habits, and to question the familiar and local framework of customs in their region in order to adopt a critical distance. But it would be premature to think that there exists a global vision that applies to everyone, abandoning the local framework to take refuge in a ready-made way of thinking, a universalising formula understood as a postulate of unity, which would be an empty shell without developing sensitivity to contradiction and a conflictual search for rationality.

The role of civil society organisations, both international ones like Oidel, Jesuit Worldwide Learning, Save the Children, Generations for Peace, V. Chizzolini, and Globethics, whose representatives Christine Housel and Ignace Haaz participated in the discussions and the panel that followed the presentations, reminds us that they also have a role to play: to restore confidence as soon as the experience of developing a delocalised sensitivity allows us to rethink with our own tools and traditions (such as proverbs from Niger, theses editions from the Democratic Republic of Congo on the social and religious difficulties of Pygmy populations, aphorisms, intercultural teaching manuals on management, etc.).

The Journal of Ethics in Higher Education Issue 2(2023), released in June 2023, which focuses on language and translation between the cultures of philosophical concepts, contributes to the same momentum of capturing unity. It is not an unyielding foundation but a fragile yet useful balance in equilibrium, through plurality.

La trentaine d’enseignants et formateurs des enseignants réunis, avec les auteurs et éditeurs du livre : Repenser l’éducation et la pédagogie dans une perspective africaine , Moussa Sagayar et Saibou Adamou, Stefania Gandolfi, (Globethics, 2022), ont d’abord écouté le Directeur de l’Institut universitaire de formation des enseignants de l’Université de Genève, le Prof. Olivier Maulini.

Dans globaliser on peut entendre l’étymologie du mot éducation, qui du latin e-ducere, signifie sortir l’individu hors de sa communauté, l’extraire du confort des habitudes de sa famille, questionner le cadre familier et local des coutumes de sa région, pour prendre une distance critique. Mais il serait hatif de penser qu’il existe une vision mondiale qui vaudrait pour tous, on n’abandonne pas la cadre local pour s’abriter derrière un prêt-à-penser, une formule universalisant, entendu comme un postulat d’unité, qui serait une coquille vide, sans développer une sensibilité à la contradiction, une quête conflictuelle de la rationalité. 

Le rôle des organisations de la société civile, internationales comme Oidel, Jesuit Worldwide Learning, Save the Children, Generations for Peace, V. Chizzolini ou Globethics, dont le représentants Christine Housel et Ignace Haaz ont participé aux discussions et à la table ronde qui a suivi les interventions, rappellent qu’elles aussi ont un rôle à jouer, celui redonner confiance aussitôt que l’expérience de développer une sensibilité délocalisée permet de repenser avec ses propres outils et traditions (des proverbes du Niger, des éditions de thèses du RD Congo sur les difficultés sociales et religieuses des populations pygmées, des aphorisms, des manuels d’enseignement interculturels de gestion, etc. ).

La revue JEHE 2(2023), focalisé sur le langage et la traduction entre les cultures des concepts philosophiques participent à un même élan à saisir une unité, ou à défaut d’une socle d’airain une fragile mais utile balance en équilibre, à travers la diversité.
