The Globethics.net Academy will be launching the Globethics.net Blue Table Webinar Series this spring. The series offers a unique oppertunity to engage with ethical issues applied to various subjects and contexts. Webinars will be held monthly from March through to September 2021 the fourth Wednesday every month, check the programme, with thematic panel disucssions, video screenings, lectures and so much more. Topics will range from Ethics and Democracy, Ethics and Ecology to the Arts and more.

Ethical issues in the COVID-19 pandemic: Are lessons ever learned?
Dr Upshur presentation will outline some of the key ethical issues that have arisen globally and locally during COVID-19 pandemic, and show how there is structural similarity to previous significant infectious disease outbreaks. Dr Upshur will discuss the limitations of addressing these through the application of ethical frameworks and point to the need for more attention to issues in implementation of ethics advice in pandemics.

Recently, hate speech, conspiracy theories and fake news on the one hand, and cancel culture or call-out culture, on the other hand, they have taken centre stage in the public debate.
