Globethics.net 10th Anniversary: Press Release - Access to Information as a Human Right Focus of Globethics.net 10th Anniversary Celebration
"Globethics.net has grown during the last 10 years on the basis of a commitment to open access, to the sharing of knowledge and information for the mutual benefit of all. The need and the demand are there for resources that are freely available, especially in developing and emerging economies. We are dedicated to promoting access not only to the materials we provide but across all fields of human endeavour." These are the words of Founder and Executive Director of Globethics.net, Prof. Dr Christoph Stückelberger on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the online platform on applied ethics, www.globethics.net.
The 10th anniversary event taking place in Geneva from 15:00 to 18:00 has been organised deliberately on 10 December 2014, international Human Rights Day with the topic ‘Access to Information as a Human Right: The Ethics of Regulation and Freedom'.
The programme features: Christoph Stückelberger, Founder and Executive Director of Globethics.net and a speech from Walter Fust, President of the Board of Foundation; a presentation of the Globethics.net vision and Jubilee brochure by the Founder; short statements from supporters and staff; and a panel on ‘Access to Information as a Human Right'. Panellists talking on the topic include Ingrid Deltenre, Director General of the European Broadcasting Union, Preetam Maloor, strategy and policy advisor from the International Telecommunication Union and Marianne Ejdersten, a member of the Board of Directors of the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC).
During the event the publication More or Less Equal. How Digital Platforms Can Help Advance Communication Rights (2014) will be launched. It can be downloaded for free. It is co-published by Globethics.net with the WACC, an NGO that builds on communication and addresses rights in order to promote social justice. The booklet explores the challenges posed by the use and abuse of digital platforms.
