null Media Release: Zayed University in UAE Partners with 'Globethics.net' for Collaboration in Applied Ethics

United Arab Emirates (UAE) youth will have opportunities to get into a wider space of knowledge on applied ethics as practiced in various fields such as business, education, and collective and systematic behaviour in business, thanks to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on 19 October by Zayed University (ZU) and the Geneva-based "Globethics.net" Foundation.

Zayed University is the leading state university in the UAE with a campus in Abu Dhabi and one in Dubai. Over 80 per cent of the 8,000 students are women.

Professor Reyadh Almehaideb, Vice President of Zayed University and Professor Christoph Stückelberger, Executive Director and Founder of Globethics.net, have signed the MoU after a meeting held at ZU campus in Abu Dhabi.

Dr Marilyn Roberts, ZU Acting Provost, Dr Abdel-Mohsen Onsi, Associate Provost, Chief Officer of Academic Affairs, Dr Christopher Southgate, Dean of College of Sustainability, and Dr Ibrahim Souss, Professor and Chair of the Standing Committee for International Education (SCIE) also attended the event.

The two participating parties expressed their intentions to encourage various scholarly collaboration, such as joint organization of conferences, and development of a special collection of the Global Digital Library, in cooperation with the library of Zayed University, development of initiatives to promote ethical leader-ship and governance, cooperative research projects, including the exchange of relevant academic materials.

Globethics.net  provides an electronic platform for ethical reflection and action. Its aim is to ensure that people in all regions of the world are empowered to reflect and act on ethical issues. The founding conviction of Globethics.net was that more equal access to knowledge resources in the field of applied ethics will enable persons and institutions from developing and transition economies to become more visible and audible in the global discourse on ethics.

Professor Almehaideb has pointed out that the MoU with Globethics.net will enhance mutual collaboration in the fields of research especially those topics related to Islam, sustainability sciences, business, information technology. "The agreement will also provide promising student exchange opportunities between the two institutions," he added.

Professor Stückelberger stressed the significance of the MoU in reinforcing the academic cooperation and promoting joint research opportunities between Zayed University and Globethics.net. He praised the important educational and cognitive role played by the University in the region.

"We will work together in terms of coordinating training programs that provide ZU faculty, students and staff wider knowledge and expertise on applied ethics, and allow students from every discipline to gain more learning experience on those topics through our online library on ethics," he said.
