It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Bosco Muchukiwa Rukakiza, an engaged and committed contributor to Publications, on 3 February 2022. Director-General of the ISDR (Institut supérieur de développement rural) in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo, Professor Bosco Muchukiwa taught in several institutions in the region, notably at the Evangelical University in Africa where he was Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

After obtaining his PhD in Development Policy and Management at the University of Antwerp in Belgium, he wrote and published several books and scientific articles, focusing on different areas of conflict and peacebuilding.

Over the past few years, developed a very lively and fruitful collaboration with Professor Bosco, publishing a number of his works on conflict management and transformation, particularly in DR Congo, in our Focus Series of publications.

In May 2021, we were delighted to host an online book launch to celebrate the publication of Professor Bosco’s book Résilience et transformation des conflits dans les États des Grands Lacs africains, bringing together participants from around the world in lively discussion on pacifism, dialogue and mediation. Professor Bosco explained the importance of his latest publication, which centres around the theory of transformation and conflicts, the search for participatory action applied to conflict, and resilience and conflicts.

With great fondness, we remember and reflect on the life of Professor Bosco, keeping him in our hearts as our 'pacifist of the Great Lakes Region’
