49th Session of the Human Rights Council: Co-sponsored statement on human rights education and learning
During the 49th Session of the Human Rights Council, Globethics.net co-sponsored an oral statement as part of the NGO Working Group on Human Rights Education and Learning.
The statement was delivered on 16 March 2022 by Sian Bagshaw of the World Scout Movement Organization on behalf of 16 non-governmental organisations, including the International Organization for the Right to Education and Freedom of Education (OIDEL), Soka Gakkai International (SGI) and Graduate Women International (GWI) as well as Globethics.net.
The co-sponsored oral statement represented a reminder to member states to review their progress in the implementation of human rights education and training, as well as a call for the incoming Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education to focus on Human Rights Education and meaningful engagement with young people as the “leaders and key partners in designing and conducting human rights education” efforts.
"Globethics.net acknowledges, supports and is deeply grateful for every effort made by multilateral and state actors, civil society partners and education institutions and teachers to ensure that human rights education and learning continues, that every citizen from a young age is aware of their rights and respectful of those of others. It is our conviction that this critical learning is a building block for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially important amid the current conflicts and coinciding with our ultimate aim to contribute to more peaceful and sustainable societies through ethics in higher education."
- Lucy Howe López, Deputy Executive Director of Globethics.net
