A one-day conference on the topic of 'Ethics in Higher Education' was held in Kigali, the Capital City of Rwanda in East Africa.
The conference was organised by the Protestant University of Rwanda and featured Christoph Stückelberger, Globethics.net President, as the main speaker.
The general objective of the workshop was to help leaders in churches and church related institutions (such as educational centers, health care services, seminaries, etc.), as well as Christian private entrepreneurs to build practical capacity in a climate of strong accountability and transparency in the management of assets and resources. The specific objectives of the workshop were to:
- provide knowledge and skills on how to think more creatively, more systematically and hence more strategically about investment and assets management towards self-sustenance.
- clarify key ethical principles in investment and assets managements by churches, church related institutions and individuals in a Christian perspective.
- discuss tools and practices which enable the improved and sustainable management of assets.
Present at the conference were representatives from ten universities, among them private universities as well as the state University of Rwanda.
The conference was organised in line with the goals developed by the UNESCO Framework for Action 2030 (United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 – "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all") and serves as a call for joint action by Higher Learning Institutions to contribute to creating a more ethical society through the education of future leaders.
