New staff at the International Secretariat of Globethics.net (GE)

Five people now work and will be working at the International Secretariat of Globethics.net in Geneva:

Christoph Stückelberger, founder and chairperson of Globethics.net, works fulltime since 1 February 2008 as CEO (Executive Director). He continues to teach one day a week as Professor of Ethics at the University of Basel/Switzerland. He got his PhD in theological ethics (peace ethics), his habilitation in environmental ethics and has published many books and articles. As soon as Globethics.net is transformed from an association into a foundation (most probably in 2008) he will give up his chairmanship in order to separate the two functions of CEO and chairperson. He communicates in English, French and German.

Natalie Emch started her fulltime work as Assistant to the Director on 1 March 2008, replacing Evelyn Appiah (see below). She studied political sciences, is trilingual (English, German, French) and has working experience – among others – in the organization of international conferences. GE warmly welcomes Natalie Emch!

Deon Rossouw will be working fulltime as of 1 August 2008 as Program Executive with a special emphasis on Business Ethics. He got his PhD in philosophical ethics. He lives with his family in South Africa and is a well known professor of ethics, especially business ethics, at the University of Pretoria/South Africa. Deon Rossouw has published different books and articles on this subject and founded BEN Africa, the African Business Ethics Network. He is the current president of ISBEE, the International society for Business, Economy and Ethics. GE warmly welcomes Deon Rossouw!

Ariane Hentsch will be working half time as of 1 April 2008 as Program Executive with a special emphasis on Interreligious Ethics. She worked in interreligious programs before joining Globethics.net as a coordinator in September 2006. She is now on maternity leave since December 2007. Ariane Hentsch studied International relations and completed a DEA in interreligious studies. She is trilingual (French, English, Spanish). Welcome back in the new function!

Atanu Garai continues to work fulltime as Online Networking Specialist with the specific task to build up the GE Global Digital Library on Ethics. He works fulltime from New Delhi/India. He studied information and library sciences and won a scholarship (which was given globally to only five persons!) for a further training in Online Networking from OCLC.

Farewell to Evelyn Appiah

Evelyn Appiah from Ghana worked as Assistant since the creation of GE in 2004 until the end of January 2008. She is trained in adult education. She is now retired, but will continue to work part-time on an educational program in Ghana. We warmly thank Evelyn Appiah for her pioneer work at the International Secretariat of Globethics.net!

GE International Conference on Interreligious Ethics in January 2009

Globethics.net will hold its International Conference on Interreligious Ethics on “Care and Compassion. Methodologies for Interreligous Ethics” from 25-29 January 2009 in Nairobi/Kenya. The conference was originally planned for August 2008 but had to be postponed because of the political instability in Kenya. Globethics.net wants to maintain Kenya as the place of venue since until now it has never held an international conference in Africa. The new date also gives more time for preparatory online working groups. You will get more information on the working groups and the conference registration in April. The concept and subthemes can be seen on the conference document by clicking
here or by going to the document section on the Globethics.net website.

GE Global Digital Library on Ethics and new networking platform under construction

The Global Digital Library on Ethics of Globethics.net is under construction. The launch is planned between July and September 2008. It will allow online access to full text documents, e-journals, e-books and bibliographical data on ethics (
see last newsletter). Globethics.net offers it as an attractive tool also to other networks on ethics. Interested networks and institutions please contact Christoph Stückelberger.
