on 12th and 13th January, 2018 at St. Aloysius College, Elthuruth, Thrissur, Kerala. The call for paper for the conference was taken up enthusiastically by the academic community that altogether more than a hundred and seventy five abstracts were received.
Prof Don Adams inaugurates the Conference
The conference was inaugurated on 12th January, 2018, Friday, by Prof. Don Adams, Florida Atlantic University, USA. Rev. Dr. Babu K.T., the college principal , Dr. Thomas John C, the HoD of the PG & Research Department of English, Rev. Dr. Jose Nandhikkara, Editor in Chief, Journal of Dharma, Bengaluru and Executive Director, Globethics.net India, and Dr. Betsy Paul. C., organising secretary of the conference, spoke during the occasion.
Prof Don Adams releases conference volume with the abstracts of the presentations
After the inaugural function, Prof. Adams proceeded to give a keynote address on "Radical Evil and the Infinite Other in Jim Thompson's Fiction." It was followed by a stage show "Pathi" by Ms. Niranjana Varma. The participants presented their papers on "Self and the Scattered Images of the Other" during the afternoon session.
The second day of the conference commenced with paper presentations by researchers. Dr. K.M. Krishnan, Director, School of Letters, MG University, Kottayam was the distinguished resource person of the day. He gave a talk on "Of Nations and Fragments: The Case of Sports in India." The serious academic discussions had a fitting finale in a relaxing and elevating musical performance by John J Kannampuzha and Ashwin Satheesh Nair.
The conference was well received and attended by the academia and there were one hundred and thirty five paper presenters including college teachers, research scholars and students, of whom fifty were from outside the University of Calicut to which St. Aloysius College is affiliated.
