As of May 2023, Globethics has officially launched the new Southern Africa Centre (Cape Town), marking a step forward in our global engagement plan per the new Strategy 2023-2027. The Centre is hosted by Stadio Holdings, a private higher education institution that brings together the Southern Business School, Embury Institute for Higher Education, LISOF and Prestige Academy with over 30,000 students across nine campuses.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of the Centre's new manager, Dr Carike Noeth, who is eager to start putting the new Globethics Strategy into action in the region. Dr Noeth has been involved in tertiary education since 2014 and received her PhD from Stellenbosch University in 2017, specialising in the Ethics of Care and the Ethics of Justice as contemporary ethical theories.

She sees ethics and moral living as the cornerstone of changing any society, and on the critical importance of the new Centre, Dr Noeth shares:

"We find ourselves in a very challenging time, especially in Africa, where a lack of leadership, high levels of corruption, inadequate opportunities for proper education, and wavering responsibility seem to rule the day.

"As a young, vibrant, and fast-developing part of Africa, it is crucial that we shift our focus to care enough about ethical leadership. It is only when we start to live ethical lives that we will start to see just and flourishing civil societies.

"It is therefore crucial to implement sustainable ethical leadership strategies that are in line with our global vision and mission statements to help guide and shape our leaders to build a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future for generations to come. This is exactly what we aim to do at the Southern Africa Centre of Globethics".

Globethics has had a presence in the Southern Africa region for a number of years, enjoying fruitful collaborations with the University of South Africa (UNISA) and other institutions in the area, including Stadio Holdings. Prof. Dr Divya Singh, Chief Academic Officer of Stadio Holdings and former Director of the Ethics Directorate at UNISA, who previously held the position of Southern Africa Regional Director, remains a key stakeholder in Globethics activities in the region. Prof. Dr Singh is also a member of the Globethics Board of Foundation, Academic Committee, Pool of Ethics Experts, and a course instructor, as well as being a contributor to Globethics Publications.

Globethics welcomes our new team member and looks forward to the development of partnerships and projects in the region in working towards ethical leadership for a just, inclusive and sustainable world.
