Globethics.net at CUEA workshop March 2017
The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) has held a sensitisation meeting for the academic and administration staff in order to inform the faculty about the strategy, updated institutional policies and agreements, and consequently the new expectations on behalf of the institution.
This event is one among many developments at CUEA Following the workshop held in CUEA in March 2018 and the Globethics.net International Conference held in Geneva in June 2018. The University also prepared an action plan on how to implement the integration of ethics in higher education. Another of the activities within the plan was to develop a code of ethics and code of conduct.
The meeting was held on the 16 August 2018 at the main University Campus in Nairobi where presentations were delivered by Rev. Dr. Peter Mbaro, currently the University Ethics Officer, Director of the Centre for Social Justice and Ethics (CSJE) and a Co-Director of Globethics.net East Africa; Justus Mbae, Vice Chancellor; and Herbert Makinda, Globethics.net Regional Programme Executive; all addressing the university's shift towards the integration of ethics at institutional and faculty levels. One of the key developments highlighted in the presentation was CUEA's emphasis on the need to produce 'ethical professionals' through the available programmes, which features in their mission statement.
In addition to the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct, CUEA has also developed their Core Values Commitment Statement, the Sexual Offence Policy and Alcohol, Substance and Drug Abuse policy, which was presented by Eric Omondi Njiri, the university Human Resources Manager, who is also responsible for the overseeing that the new policies and agreement are respected.
