Blue Ethics: Ethical Perspectives on Sustainable, Fair Water Resources Use and Management (2019)

Benoît Girardin / Evelyne Fiechter-Widemann (Eds.)
ISBN 978-2-88931-308-2

For many policy makers, urban managers, water experts, technicians or activists, ethical perspectives in water management are not important or do not bring any added value. A debate seems to be locked between those stressing mainly the right of access to water for all and those who cannot go beyond economic realism. The sustainable use of a resource that becomes under growing pressure, in terms of extraction, allocation and recycling looks as a technical issue, not to say a technocratic one. This collective book claims the opposite. The many issues faced by the access to water as well as the sustainable use of the resource rely on open negotiations, settling conflicts, tariffs structure while expanding delivery and managing fairly water' scarcity. In all these processes, ethical values do matter.

Resolving Ethical Dilemmas: 50 Cases from Africa for Teaching and Training (2019)

Tobe Nnamani / Christoph Stückelberger
ISBN 978-2-88931-314-3*

This is an honest, tough and practical book in which real people recount their real predicaments concerning poverty, sex, bribes, school fees, forced marriage, healers and traditional rites. Ethics is about what is good and bad. An ethical dilemma, however, is not a decision between good and bad but between bad solutions. The question then is which solution is the "least unethical". This book presents 50 real-life cases in the contexts of scholarly, private, professional and public life. The cases in this book have been shared for teachers, students and professional practitioners, to be used in teaching and training or individual study, to test personal intuitions and encourage reflection on ethical decisions.

Water Ethics: Principles and Guidelines (2019)

Workshop for Water Ethics (W4W). Endorsed by Board.
ISBN 978-2-88931-312-9

Some would say that ethical perspectives on water management are not important or that they do not bring any added value. This text on water ethics claims the opposite; it brings ethical values and principles to bear on current water issues to provide solutions that improve the chances of positive outcomes for all concerned. Ethical concerns come into play in, for example, managing the availability of water and its market value, as a question of economic ethics and of fair access; technical innovation in relation to extraction, treatment and delivery of water includes innovation ethics; managing water conflicts [...] The text, authored by an international group of experts and approved by the Board of Foundation, shows how ethical values can facilitate the handling of issues and conflicts related to water in an effective, sustainable and inclusive manner. As such the text is a contribution to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

Patrice Meyer-Bisch, Stefania Gandolfi, Greta Balliu (Éditeurs)
ISBN 978-2-88931-310-5

Holiness as Wholeness: Ethical Implications towards an Inclusive Understanding of the HIV / AIDS Crisis in Kenya (2019)

James Eroni Miriago
ISBN 978-2-88931-298-6

This study presents a critical examination of holiness as wholeness – ethical implications towards an inclusive understanding of the HIV/AIDS crisis in Kenya. The understanding of holiness and its interpretation has contributed to the stigmatisation of those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. The study calls for a theologically based re-interpretation of holiness, firstly, by evaluating and interpreting a Pentecostals understanding of HIV and AIDS and its effects on stigma and discrimination; secondly, it aims to assess how the doctrine of holiness as wholeness is challenged by the impact of HIV and AIDS in the Redeemed Gospel Church (RGC), a concrete Pentecostal church in East Africa; and thirdly, it aims to propose a new approach to the doctrine of holiness as wholeness, which could be applied in the Pentecostal African context globally.

Meine Träume zu Kirchenfinanzen and Kirchenentwicklung in Deutschland (2019)

Johannes Hoffmann
ISBN 978-2-88931-296-2

Moral and Ethical Issues in Human Genome Editing (2019)

A Statement of the CEC Bioethics Thematic Reference Group
ISBN 978-2-88931-294-8

Recent reports of a Chinese scientist who claims to have applied genome editing techniques to human embryos, which were subsequently implanted and resulted in the birth of live babies, means that the question of whether—and how—these techniques should be used in humans demands an urgent answer. This in-depth report takes a wider perspective on the issue, which concerns all people as individuals and collectively as a society. It challenges the alleged achievement in China as being profoundly unethical, reflecting a disregard for the ethical and professional concerns of the international scientific community.

Corporate Governance for Churches. Toward a Legal Reform in the Church of South India Trust Association (2019)

Joseph G. Muthuraj
ISBN 978-2-88931-278-8

The book explores the nature and function of the non-profit incorporated company the Church of South India Trust Association (CSITA) situated in Chennai, South India, and analyses the precarious situation the organisation finds itself in with regard to the financial and property (mis)management. This leads the author to make a major remedial proposal, namely, to lift its corporate veil to expose the true affairs of the company for reproof and restoration. Corporate Governance is defined as referring to the rules, regulations, policies and standards required for sustaining accountability, transparency and general corporate integrity. The aim of the book is to elevate the Church to a strong position with regard to corporate governance, liberating it from corporate failures and from inadequate and improper internal governance mechanism.

Human Dignity in Managing Employees (2019)

Tibor Héjj
ISBN 978-2-88931-280-1

The Academic, Church and Business sectors have been three independent worlds for too long. Only recently have the ideas and theories of one segment started to develop and generate a strong and acknowledged impact on the other sectors, cross-fertilizing each other. The aim of this thesis is to summarize how it is possible to derive from theology the kind of philosophical anthropology which can serve as a basis for the right management theory together with its implementation. It is based on the Church's Catholic Social Teaching (CST), specifically on its prime pillar of "human dignity", together with the related academic disciplines, while providing a useful performative approach for those in business. The conclusion is an alternative, holistic system, that considers the employees as persons, rather than economic factors.

Bioética de las enfermedades tropicales desatendidas (2019)

Fernando J. Andrade Narváez
ISBN 978-2-88931-276-4

Day After Day 365 Aphorisms (2019)

Oscar Brenifier
ISBN 978-2-88931-272-6

One can philosophize through lengthy explanations and towering treaties. But there is another tradition: that of the aphorism, the art of the fragment. To make the reader think through one or a few brief sentences, a digest of thought that tries to capture in few words a vivid problematic, in a striking form. Often critical, ironic or mocking, this laconic form of philosophical expression is generous because it is trusting: the reader will understand mere implicit meaning, he will read between the lines. And when will be highlighted the sordid of the human soul, he will not be sad but joyful, for consciousness makes us free. The issue is to reconcile with our own finitude, to accept our own humanity, for better and for worse.

Religious Diversity in Europe
and the Rights of Religious Minorities (2019)

Elizabeta Kitanovic / Patrick Roger Schnabel (Editors)
ISBN 978-2-88931-270-2

In October 2016, the Conference of European Churches brought together in Zagreb (Croatia) dozens of experts to discuss the challenges facing minority churches, and religious minorities in general. The European landscape presents many difficulties for these communities. Some struggle with obtaining legal status, some are subject to discrimination, exclusion or even open hostility. Widespread prejudices, destruction or confiscation of property, and barriers to religious rituals and ceremonies make daily life difficult for many communities across the continent. CEC, and the participants gathered at the Zagreb conference, are convinced that minorities bring value to societies, and that deeper religious literacy, enhanced understanding, and fostering dialogue will contribute to their flourishing. This volume contains their contributions to these discussions with a hope that it will contribute to healthy, diverse societies throughout Europe.

Diaspore y democrazie. Le diaspore sono portatrici di valori (2018)

Stefania Gandolfi (A cura di)
ISBN 978-2-88931-266-5
